What to Expect Before Beginning Therapy

Therapy Process & Treatment Frequency

Therapy is not simply about finding immediate solutions—it is a process of developing a deeper understanding of yourself and the emotional patterns that shape your thoughts, relationships, and experiences. Lasting change often occurs through thoughtful exploration, curiosity, and the therapeutic relationship itself. In our work together, we will explore both present concerns and the underlying experiences that continue to influence your emotional life. As insight deepens, new ways of understanding yourself and relating to others naturally emerge, creating the foundation for meaningful and enduring change.

The frequency of sessions is an important part of the therapeutic process and will be discussed together as we begin our work. For many individuals, weekly therapy serves as the ideal starting point, providing the consistency needed to establish a strong therapeutic relationship and maintain momentum in the work. After our initial sessions, I will offer my clinical recommendation regarding how often we meet based on your goals, the nature of your concerns, and the depth of work that may be most beneficial.

Ultimately, the decision about session frequency is yours, and together we will determine a schedule that feels both realistic and supportive of your needs. While weekly therapy is appropriate for many people, some individuals—particularly those working through trauma, complex trauma, or longstanding emotional patterns—may benefit from meeting more than once per week. More frequent sessions often provide greater continuity, allowing emotional experiences to remain more accessible between sessions and creating opportunities for deeper exploration, processing, and integration. This continuity can often facilitate more meaningful and sustained therapeutic progress.

Fees & Insurance

Psychotherapy is an investment in your emotional well-being, personal growth, and long-term health. I offer private-pay services, allowing our work together to remain focused on your individual needs rather than the limitations often imposed by insurance companies. Payment is due at the time of each session, and I accept: Zelle, Venmo, and major credit cards as well as HSA and FSA cards. While I am an out-of-network provider, I can provide a superbill upon request that you may submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Coverage varies by plan, and I encourage you to contact your insurance provider to better understand your out-of-network mental health benefits.

My standard fee reflects the time, training, and care devoted to providing high-quality psychotherapy that seeks to address the underlying causes of emotional distress, supporting deeper healing and enduring personal growth. At the same time, I recognize that financial circumstances vary, and I am happy to discuss a reduced fee in situations where cost may otherwise be a barrier to receiving treatment.

Session Fees

  • Individual Therapy (45 minutes): $325

  • Couples Therapy   (45 minutes): $325

In-Person & Telehealth Sessions

I offer both in-person sessions in my Palo Alto office and secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth appointments for clients throughout California. While I generally prefer meeting in person, as sharing the same physical space can deepen the therapeutic experience and allow for a richer appreciation of the subtle verbal and nonverbal aspects of our work together, I also recognize that telehealth offers important flexibility and accessibility. For many individuals, virtual therapy provides a meaningful and effective way to engage in treatment despite demanding schedules, travel, or geographic distance. Together, we will determine the format that best supports your needs while preserving the consistency, depth, and quality of the therapeutic relationship.
